MCP tools reference

Every tool the Punchline MCP server offers, with its arguments, generated from the server's own definitions. Tool descriptions are written for models: they say what each tool answers and give an example. To connect a client, see Connect your AI assistant.

Results reach the model marked as data: page paths, referrers and campaign tags come from whoever sends traffic to your site, so they're length-capped and stripped of control characters, and models are told never to follow instructions found in them.

Read tools

list_sites

List sites. Read-only.

The website(s) this connection can read, with how each is installed (edge, browser snippet) and whether GA4 is connected. Takes no input.

No arguments.

query_analytics

Query analytics. Read-only.

Flexible query over this site's traffic: metrics grouped by dimensions, with filters. Use it for anything the other tools don't cover. Metrics: sessions, pageviews, human_sessions, agent_sessions, agent_share, thin_pageviews, events, event_sessions, event_value, conversions, conversion_rate, visitors, bounces, bounce_rate, avg_session_duration, pages_per_session, engaged_sessions, engagement_rate, exits, exit_rate, avg_time_on_page. sessions and pageviews count everyone; human_sessions and agent_sessions split them; agent_share is agent_sessions / sessions. Dimensions: day, week, month, path, visitor_type, actor_class, operator, tier, referrer_host, assistant, utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content, agent, agent_purpose, delivery, content_type, topic, channel, event_name, goal, partner, exit_path, country, device_class, browser_family, os_family. visitor_type is human, ai_referred, agent or crawler (depends on confidence). assistant is the AI assistant a referral came from (chatgpt, perplexity, claude, gemini, copilot). URL parameters the site allows are dimensions too, as param:<name> (list_sites shows which); partner and channel follow the site's parameter rules. Page and conversion metrics only. Filters: a list of [field, op, value]; ops eq, neq, in, not_in, starts_with, is_null, not_null. ["is_entry", "eq", true] keeps only the first page of each session (landing pages). Example: {"date_range": {"from": "2026-09-01", "to": "2026-09-30"}, "metrics": ["sessions"], "dimensions": ["operator"], "filters": [["visitor_type", "in", ["agent", "crawler"]]]} Metric families, one per query: page metrics (sessions, pageviews, visitors, human_sessions, agent_sessions, agent_share, thin_pageviews, exits, exit_rate, avg_time_on_page); session metrics (sessions, pageviews, visitors, bounces, bounce_rate, avg_session_duration in seconds, pages_per_session, engaged_sessions, engagement_rate; dimensions country, device_class, browser_family, os_family, exit_path, and path = landing page); event metrics (events, event_sessions, event_value; dimension event_name); conversion metrics (conversions, conversion_rate; dimension goal, where path is the landing page). Visitors are counted per day (no persistent IDs). For standard web reports about people, filter ["visitor_type", "in", ["human", "ai_referred"]]. Groups containing fewer than 5 people's page views, events or conversions are withheld for privacy; meta.suppressed_rows says how many.

get_content_funnel

Agent content funnel. Read-only.

What agents read on this site and what came of it, per page (or content type / topic): fetched (live retrieval by assistants answering someone right now, vs training and search crawls), delivered (share of agent requests that got a 200, where the install sees the status), and cited (people who then arrived from an AI assistant on that page). citation_rate is people per 100 live fetches. delivery_coverage says how much status data exists (it needs the Cloudflare install). get_recommendations

Content recommendations for AI search. Read-only.

Evidence-based things to try so AI assistants can read and cite this site, from what agents actually fetched. Rules: C1 Agents often can't get the page (blocked or erroring); C2 Agents keep requesting a page that doesn't exist; C3 Agents get a near-empty page (possibly JavaScript-only); C4 Assistants read the page live but never send anyone; C5 One content type earns citations far more often than another; C6 A pricing or comparison page assistants read live: keep it current. Each finding has its evidence and the previous period's numbers, so the effect of a change can be checked. They are suggestions to test, never ranking guarantees. Example: {"from": "2026-09-01", "to": "2026-09-30"}

Argument Type Required Description
from string (date) First UTC day, YYYY-MM-DD. Default: 6 days before to.

get_account_signals

Account signals (agent intent). Read-only.

Companies whose people or AI agents researched this site, with what they read: agent intent for sales. Account-level only; no person is named. A company appears once the site's server has sent a work-email domain with an event (POST /v1/events company_domain). Agents count when they worked in that person's browser the same day. Each account has a strength (strong, moderate, light, from weighted agent page views: pricing, security and comparison pages count most), a one-line summary, intents (pricing, security, comparison, demo, integrations, docs, product, customers, support, careers, other) with agent and people page views, operators, and agent sessions in the previous period for the trend. people is null when withheld for privacy (fewer than 5 people outside the owner's dashboard). Example: {"from": "2026-10-01", "to": "2026-10-07", "min_strength": "moderate"}

get_resolution_coverage

Where agents run, and how many we can connect. Read-only.

Agent sessions split by where they ran: in_browser (an agent working in a person's own browser, which joins that person's visit the same day and often a company), cloud (an agent service; aggregate only), local (an HTTP tool on someone's computer) or unknown. in_browser_share is in_browser / (in_browser + cloud). joined_person and joined_company count agent sessions connected to a person's visit or a company the same day. Per operator and per day too. Crawlers are counted separately. Example: {"from": "2026-09-01", "to": "2026-09-30"}

Argument Type Required Description
from string (date) First UTC day, YYYY-MM-DD. Default: 6 days before to.

get_handoffs

Handoff links. Read-only.

Handoff links the site gave agents (carts, quotes, configurations, bookings) and what happened: how many a person opened, and how many of those people then completed a goal. This connects cloud agents to outcomes without knowing who the person is. Totals and per kind and per agent operator, with values (cart or quote totals, in the site's currency). Example: {"from": "2026-09-01", "to": "2026-09-30"}

get_ai_influence

AI influence on conversions (survey). Read-only.

How many conversions AI assistants probably influenced, from the post-conversion question "Did an AI assistant help you find or choose us?" (events ai_assist_yes / ai_assist_no / ai_assist_not_sure). Returns answers, the yes share with a 95% interval, people's conversions, the estimate of AI-assisted conversions (shown from 30 answers), what Punchline observes directly (conversions by people sent from AI assistants, converted handoff links), and the multiplier between the two. Always an estimate, never mixed into observed counts. Example: {"from": "2026-09-01", "to": "2026-09-30", "goal": "Purchase"}

Argument Type Required Description
from string (date) First UTC day, YYYY-MM-DD. Default: 6 days before to.

No arguments.

get_reconciliation

GA4 reconciliation. Read-only.

Compares Google Analytics 4's session count with Punchline's for a date range, and explains the gap: agents GA4 never sees, browser-based agents GA4 probably counted as people (an estimate), and the unexplained remainder. Only for sites with GA4 connected. GA4 days use the property's time zone; Punchline's are UTC.
