About

Changelog

2026-10-28

  • New address: punchlineanalytics.com. The dashboard, API, collector and snippet are at app.punchlineanalytics.com. The old vercel.app addresses keep working, so existing installs don't need to change; new installs, the GTM template (1.2) and the TypeScript SDK (0.1.1) use the new one.

2026-10-27

  • Install packages on npm, MIT licensed. @punchline-analytics/next, @punchline-analytics/cloudflare and the TypeScript SDK @punchline-analytics/sdk. The @punchline npm scope belongs to someone else, so earlier docs naming @punchline/next now use the published name.
  • Handoff link spec 0.2 is licensed. The spec on GitHub is CC BY 4.0 and its example code MIT: implement it, copy it, adapt it, with credit.
  • Handoff guide: what agents pass on. In our tests, agents passed on links to things they built every time, and share links on ordinary pages almost never. The guide now leads with action links.
  • Google Tag Manager template 1.1. Event tags that fire before the Install tag now queue through Tag Manager's own queue API, and after it call the snippet directly, so they no longer depend on sandbox behavior Google doesn't document. If you imported version 1, import the new file over it.

2026-10-25

  • Install on Vercel without Next.js. One middleware file for static, Vite or Astro sites on Vercel sees every request, including agents that never run JavaScript, and works alongside the browser snippet. See Vercel (not Next.js).
  • Claude's fetches are no longer labeled impostors. Anthropic's published address list doesn't cover every address its fetch tool uses; requests that claim Claude-User from Anthropic's known network now count as Claude at the "likely" level instead of as impostors. Past labels were corrected.
  • Dashboard scripts run under a Content-Security-Policy with a per-request nonce.
  • Switch from GA4. A checklist in the dashboard takes a site from GA4 to Punchline: install, connect GA4, run both for a week, count your GA4 conversions (key events become goals in one click), import history, and connect ad accounts if you bid on conversions.
  • Google Tag Manager template (version 1): install the snippet and send GA4 events by the same names from Tag Manager. See Google Tag Manager.
  • Handoffs: each link's evidence. The Handoffs page shows recent links with the agent that made them, the rules behind its label, the open and the goal reached.

2026-10-14

  • Handoffs in your CRM. With CRM write-back on, when someone at a known company opens a handoff link an agent passed on, HubSpot gets a note and Salesforce a task on that company: what the agent built, which agent, when it was opened, and whether it converted. See CRM.
  • Handoff links for B2B. A guide to the handoffs worth making on a B2B site (quotes, demo holds, configurations, pages) and how to get agents to finish the job: one link per action, listed in llms.txt. See Handoff links.
  • Share links: handoff links without code. With an edge install, markdown for assistants fetching for someone (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Mistral) can end with "Share link to this page: …", a handoff link your install makes. When the person opens it, their visit is connected to the agent's. A link, never an instruction; the page is otherwise unchanged. Site settings → Serve AI agents markdown. Business plan. See Serve agents markdown.
  • Agents aren't a channel. channel now always means how a visit arrived; who made it is visitor_type. The ai_agents and crawlers channel values are gone: agent and crawler visits get a channel by the same rules as people's (most are direct, and URL-parameter rules now apply to them too). Overview's Sessions by channel splits each channel into people, agents and crawlers. See Concepts.
  • Page views aren't counted twice for visitors with Global Privacy Control. With both an edge install and the browser snippet, the snippet now skips page loads the edge already counted (Server-Timing: punchline-pv). If you call track() from your own Next.js proxy, set that header as shown in Next.js.

  • Connect GA4 yourself. Site settings → Integrations → Google Analytics 4. A DNS TXT record on your domain proves the property is yours. See Compare with GA4.

  • Leaving a site ends outside access too. When someone leaves or is removed, their AI-assistant connections, the API keys they created and the share links they made stop working. Creating a public share link now needs admin. See Your team.

  • BigQuery export needs a label. A dataset must carry the label punchline-site set to your site ID before Punchline writes to it; it's checked before every sync. See BigQuery and Snowflake.

  • Plan requirements, consistently. The GA4 comparison needs Growth; account-signal alerts and the MCP tools for accounts and handoffs need Business.

  • Plans and pricing. Free, Growth, Business and Enterprise, priced by page views a month. Nothing is ever cut off over a limit: we email at 80% and 100%. Billing in the dashboard shows your plan and usage; until online payment opens, email us to change plans. See Pricing and Plans and billing.

  • On the site: pages for marketing, sales, content, product and engineering teams, and side-by-side comparisons with GA4, Plausible, Fathom and Matomo, every claim about another product sourced and dated.

  • Outcomes on the Billing page (beta). Conversions by people AI assistants sent, handoff links that converted, and companies with a strong agent signal, each month. Not billed; we're exploring outcome-based pricing.

2026-10-12

  • Teams. Invite people to a site as viewers, admins or owners from Site settings → Team. Invite links work once, for the invited email, for 7 days. See Your team.
  • Docs for builders. New API guides (keys, a query cookbook, limits and conventions, the SDK), an API reference with a real example response for every endpoint, an MCP tools reference, and integration pages for webhooks and BigQuery and Snowflake. Examples and references are generated from, or tested against, the running code.
  • Guided setup. Adding a site now walks you through three steps, and the install step tells you the moment the first visit arrives.

2026-10-10

  • Handoff links. Give an agent a link for its cart, quote or booking; when its person opens it, the agent's work is connected to them and to what they do next. POST /v1/handoffs, the SDK's createHandoff, and AI & agents → Handoffs.

  • Connected, by method. Where agents run now shows how much agent traffic is connected by each method: same browser and day, work email domain, handoff link.

  • "Did an AI assistant help?" A post-conversion question (punchline.survey()) and an estimate of AI-assisted conversions with its interval, next to what links show.

  • HubSpot and Salesforce. Pipeline and revenue next to the companies that researched you, and account signals written back as notes or tasks.

  • Ad conversion uploads. Opt in to send people's conversions to Google Ads and Meta; click IDs are kept apart and deleted after up to 90 days.

  • GA4 history. Import up to 14 months of GA4 daily totals for continuity.

  • Free agent experience audit on this site: see a page the way an AI assistant does.

  • Accounts. See which companies' AI agents are researching you and what they read, grouped by intent (pricing, security, comparisons), with a signal strength. Companies come from work-email domains your server sends with form events (company_domain on POST /v1/events); only the domain is kept. Also GET /v1/accounts and the MCP tool get_account_signals.

  • Account alerts and webhooks. A new alert, A company is researching you, and a signed webhook destination so digests can create activities in HubSpot, Salesforce or Zapier.

  • Where agents run. A new report: agent sessions in someone's browser (connectable to their visit, and often a company), in the cloud (countable only) or from local tools, and how many joined a person or a company. GET /v1/resolution.

  • Serve agents markdown. The Cloudflare Worker and Next.js package can hand AI assistants a markdown version of the same page, made from your own HTML. Off by default; search engines always get HTML.

  • A new look. The site and app move to the comic field guide style.

2026-10-08

  • Your assistant can make changes. If you allow it, MCP clients can create, change and delete alerts and goals, and save reports. It's off unless you tick the box when connecting, or use a key with manage access. Assistants ask before each change, and what your site collects can't be changed this way.

  • Explore. Build your own chart: any metric, broken down and filtered, as lines, areas or columns by day, week or month. Download it as CSV or PNG.

  • Saved reports and dashboards. Save Explore views, keep them private or show them to everyone on the site, and arrange them on dashboards. Share any report or dashboard with a read-only link you can turn off at any time. Saved reports are also listed at GET /v1/reports.

  • Charts and maps. Trend charts on every report, with comparison to the previous period, and a world map of countries.

  • Ask the docs. A box on every docs page answers from these docs only, with links to the sections it used.

  • API: manage and export. Keys can now also send events or manage alerts, goals, triggers and URL parameters (/v1/alerts, /v1/goals, /v1/triggers, /v1/url-parameters). Bulk CSV exports of up to 100,000 rows (/v1/exports).

  • Warehouse export. Daily export to BigQuery or Snowflake (traffic, conversions, events and agent sessions), and Parquet files from /v1/exports.

  • Standard reports. Realtime, Acquisition (channels, referrers, campaigns), Pages (all, landing, exit), Audience (countries, devices, browsers, operating systems), and traffic KPIs with period comparison on the Overview. Visitors, bounce rate, session length, engagement, time on page and exits, for people by default.

2026-10-07

  • Events and goals. Send events from the page (punchline.track), your servers (POST /v1/events) or no-code triggers; define goals; see conversions for people, AI-referred people and agents, by channel. The agent content funnel gains its last stage, converted.
  • Ask Punchline. Ask about your site in plain words. Answers use the same tools as the API and show their queries; it can draft alerts for you to save.
  • MCP server measured with Punchline itself: which AI clients use which tools (never arguments or results).
  • Reliability. Fixed a rare hang when certain database queries ran at the same moment on one server instance.
  • Alerts. Thresholds, changes from the usual and new agent operators, filtered by who (people, agents, crawlers), delivered as one daily digest by email or Slack.
  • URL parameters. Allow referral codes and ad click IDs (kept as presence only), report on them as param:<name>, and set channel and partner with rules. Everything else in the query string is still dropped.
  • Add a site yourself in the dashboard, and rotate a site's secret.

2026-10-06

  • Sign in from your AI assistant. MCP clients that support OAuth connect with just the server URL; manage them under Connected apps.
  • TypeScript client. @punchline-analytics/sdk, generated from the API spec.
  • Docs. You're reading them: every page also as markdown, plus /llms-full.txt.
  • Agent content. A new report and API: what agents read, whether they got it, and whether assistants then sent people, with rule-based things to try. Live retrieval is reported separately from training and search crawls.
  • Channels. AI agents, crawlers and AI assistants are now channels next to search, social, email and the rest.
  • Delivery diagnostics. The Cloudflare Worker now reports each response's status and size.
  • Page rules. Tag your pages with content types and topics in Site settings.
  • API and MCP. A read-only REST API (/v1), OpenAPI 3.1 reference, and a remote MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants. Keys in Site settings.
  • Browser snippet. One line of HTML for Squarespace, Wix and other hosted builders.
  • Impostors. Agents that claim a known name from the wrong address are now labelled "impostor".

2026-10-05

  • Cloudflare Worker install for Webflow, Framer, Shopify, WordPress and any site behind Cloudflare.
  • GA4 reconciliation report.

2026-10-02

  • First release: Next.js install, rule-based classification with evidence, Overview, Agents by operator, Top pages and AI referrals reports.
